Einbruchschutz im Wohnmobil

Burglary protection in the motorhome

Travel carefree in a motorhome!

For many people, a camping holiday means freedom, a holiday in nature and the opportunity to discover many wonderful places. In spring, the anticipation of the camping holiday increases, the motorhome is brought out of hibernation, set up and beautifully decorated. But one important aspect is often overlooked, although it is actually very important: the issue of security and burglary protection in the van. Everyone thinks about protecting the house, but the motorhome is usually left out. This is why large vehicles are often targets of burglaries. With the help of a pry bar or screwdriver, large windows or skylights are not difficult to force open. Standard door cylinders are also not very secure. To protect yourself against this, there are various measures that we would like to introduce to you here.

1. Gut feeling

The simplest and most cost-effective method is probably to listen to your gut feeling. If you don't feel comfortable at a campsite, you should leave as quickly as possible. Motorway rest areas and parking lots in large cities should also be avoided if possible, as statistics show that these are the areas where burglaries occur most frequently.

2. A safe

One way to protect your valuables is with a safe or a special locking system for RVs with a floor hatch. If there's no space for one, valuables should be hidden well, not under the mattress, for example. This will at least take burglars a lot of time to search for them, and the chances of them going home empty-handed are higher. For example, smaller valuables can be stored in the refrigerator in an empty jam jar with a label. To match the original color of the contents, simply paint the jar, and add a little sand for extra weight.

3. Special door cylinders

To prevent thieves from getting in, special door cylinders can be installed on the body doors. These prevent break-ins and act as a deterrent to burglars.

4. Alarm systems

If burglars manage to get inside despite all precautions, a mobile alarm system is recommended. Door and motion sensors trigger a loud alarm, guaranteed to alert the entire neighborhood. This type of burglary protection is especially valuable at night. It's a scary thought that someone might be wandering around in your van while you're peacefully sleeping. Here, we'd like to point out our LTE-400 mobile alarm system . When triggered, the door and window sensors send a signal to the base station, which sounds a 93 dB alarm and immediately sends a push notification, text message, or call to your smartphone, depending on the settings. The system is controlled via Chuango's own app. If the power or Wi-Fi fails, the base station uses its integrated battery or the cellular network.

5. Wheel clamps

A very simple way to secure your motorhome against being driven away is with wheel clamps. Wheel clamps are attached to the wheels of the motorhome and are visible from the outside, thus also creating a deterrent effect.

6. GPS tracker

A GPS tracker is a tracking device that can determine the exact location of a motorhome. It is installed in a hard-to-see location within the motorhome, and as soon as the vehicle moves, the GPS tracker sends an alert to the connected smartphone.

7. Insurance

Last but not least, you should consider your motorhome's insurance. Partial or fully comprehensive insurance covers burglary and vehicle theft, while pure liability insurance does not.

There are many ways to protect your belongings from theft. While 100% security is impossible, it's still worth considering the topic. There's sure to be a method or two that will help everyone stay a little safer on the road in the future. This makes traveling much more fun.
