Did you know that Earth Day has been around for over 50 years?
The first Earth Day took place in the USA in 1970; initiated by Senator Gaylord Nelson in response to a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California the previous year.
Working hand in hand with students, a large movement emerged that celebrated the first global Earth Day in 1990, with 141 countries and 200 million people participating. Recycling thus became the focus of a more sustainable future.
Since then, people's awareness of environmentally responsible behavior has been growing, and 1 billion people in over 190 countries around the world are calling on the world's largest holiday for the earth to take climate protection seriously and take action for our planet.
“Live greener” – that is this year’s motto for Earth Day.
Of course, many of us would love to live in a green environment! For various reasons, not everyone can. But if we interpret the motto to mean that everyone can contribute something in their own home to keep this world green, colorful, and healthy, then we say: challenge accepted !
Let’s just take our smart lighting:
Approximately 9% of a household’s electricity consumption is used for lighting.
By switching to LEDs, which do not contain any toxic substances and are easier to recycle, you are already saving energy compared to conventional light bulbs.
However, switching to smart lighting can save even more energy – up to 85%.
Our smart lighting offers you the opportunity to avoid unnecessary energy waste. Using sensors, light only turns on when it's needed, and where it's needed.
And if you're out and about and the lights are still on at home, you can simply turn them off with your phone!
Our smart lighting can be continuously dimmed, which can make a huge difference: with a smart LED dimmed to 70%, you reduce the bulb's energy consumption by 50%. Dimmed to 50%, you save 75%.
This makes it not only more comfortable, but also “greener”.
Speaking of colors! These also make a big difference. Our smart color bulbs offer 16 million colors, and if you choose blue, you've chosen the most energy-efficient light. Do you prefer red or green? No problem—you'll save there too.
With the preset modes such as “Sunset”, “Spring” or “Relaxation” you can save up to 80% energy.
